So I am thinking on getting a throttle body but I don't know which one I should get or what size would work well with the stock intake. Any suggestions ? Money is a issue so something not to pricey !

Add a signiture with your car info and current mods. What are your hp goals? If this will be your first mod, think elsewhere, like an CAI, headers, exhaust, stall (auto), or gears (3.73 for A4, 4.10 for M6).

Ok i think I just got my signature set up. I have a 1998 Trans Am with ram air, SLP lid, Throttle body spacer and straight pipes. Hp goals aren't really expected to be outragious just trying to get some good power with some good bolts on's and needed to know about a throttle body size for the stock intake that would work good with an aftermarket one once I got the money saved up.

A stock throttle thats ported with all the mods would work great and cost a lot less...

ok sounds great what would I have to do to try and port the throttle body myself or would I have to get it done somewhere ? I read where you can use a dremel tool and shave down the lipped edges on the front and rear on the TB and polish them up for better use.

Unless you are confident and you know what you are doing, I wouldn't attempt it. I would have it ported by someone else.

Alot of people offer porting services that include the half-shaft mod, knife-blade, epoxy etc... Many of them have an exchange program and can be as little as $75.

I am surprised no one else caught this...
Here is a tip. Sell the TB spacer on ebay and use the $$$ to buy something that will actually net you a HP increase. TB spacers do not increase HP at all.
The person that came up with them was copying an old school racing trick from the Carb days where a rubber or wood Carb spacer would do 2 things.
1. keep the carb cool by providing an insolation between the motor and the carb
2. increase the ammount of space the fuel from the jets had to atomise before entering the intake valves...
A 1" carb spacer was worth about 5-7 hp in the good ol days...
But NONE of this applies to modern motors like the LS1.
1. Your fuel enters via Injectors not the TB so there is no need for extra room to atomise.
2. Your TB has a coolent passage in it so the temp of the TB does not change and the intake of the LS1 is not a heat sink so it does not heat up the TB...
Long story short... Pull it off and sell it. :poke:

Yeah a throttle body spacer is a waste of time and money......... that whistling sound is actually NOT GOOD.
Take it for what you want but I've ported probably 300+ LS throttle bodies years ago and they are the best option for the stock intake. I had mine on the car for 7 years and just had to go back to stock now so I can be legal for a racing class, and I have to say that I miss the ported unit, it drove better and made more power.
I haven't looked into who can do them well now but 99% of the ones I have seen look like they are just pretty and technically not very well done. If they do not have epoxy in them it's a waste of time IMHO, also details like the throttle stop should be done my a machine not by a grinder or file.
The last time I did these was in 2003!

Its the one that was posted up above and I didn't know if it was reliable and a good place to get it done.

The epoxy is in there so you can actually make the throttle opening the correct shape. I started off with less than that but over time tried a lot of things and found that was the best shape for moving air thru the throttle body.
I have no clue about that shop being reliable, it just looks like the polish it to me which seems like a big waste of money. They don't look to change the WOT position so that the TB actually moves air, that is worth a LOT if it's ported or not. Also it doesn't look like the lip just prior to the throttle blade which chokes the TB down to 70mm isin't even taken out of the throttle body. That just seems dumb.
I actually work with a guy now who modified these throttle bodies for Daytona Prototype racing when they mandated that they run a stock unit from GM. They did little things here and there that would keep them legal but make them run better. I showed him one of the units I used to do and he showed me a CNC ported version that GM did for them to dyno. My stuff actually was better but the GM unit was worth a good amount of power and included a aluminum piece that took the place of the epoxy.
