rod and main torque specsfirstlast 03-27-2008, 06:43 AM i need the torque specs for the rod bolts and main bolts thanks 03slowZ06 03-27-2008, 06:51 AM What bolts are you useing. firstlast 03-27-2008, 09:14 AM stock LearJet 03-27-2008, 09:43 AM Didn't I read in another post you were using all forged internals w/ 6" rods? your going to want to get some good fasteners or there is no reason to use forged parts. Order some ARP rod/main bolts. firstlast 03-27-2008, 10:23 AM ok well then what are the specs gonna be? mtperformance 03-27-2008, 12:47 PM These are the stock specs Rods 45 ft lbs Main cap bolts 75 ft lbs oil pump 65 ft lbs , but if you are using ARP's or another high pro fastener than I would use there specs. firstlast 03-27-2008, 02:35 PM will large journal main studs from arp fit on stock caps? mtperformance 03-27-2008, 11:50 PM will large journal main studs from arp fit on stock caps? What ? red_z28 03-28-2008, 12:34 AM lol.... billla 03-28-2008, 07:21 AM Kinda scary. You can't change from bolts to studs without an align-hone. Some specifics here would be good - you're asking questions that kinda seem like you haven't done your homework on the build...not trying to be a d*ck, just don't want you to fire up and make expen$ive scrap... firstlast 03-28-2008, 07:23 AM sorry i wasnt thinking they are bolts but they are designed fro a large journal billla 03-28-2008, 07:32 AM No worries - trying to help here :) So you're NOT using a windage tray? And the machine work is already done on the block and rods? And I hate to ask but...you're not REUSING the rod/main bolts, correct? firstlast 03-28-2008, 09:42 AM no all arp do you think ill be ok without a windage tray and they are scat rods with arp bolts billla 03-28-2008, 10:39 AM I'm a little leery of diving in here - you said the bolts were stock, then they were ARP. I'm going to pass as good advice given out of context can cause problems :) My suggestion is to work with your machine shop on this stuff if you don't have someone local that can help out. firstlast 03-28-2008, 10:44 AM i was going to use stock but decided otherwise and i cant find arp bolts for a windage tray billla 03-28-2008, 11:08 AM So...here's why I get hinky :) Again, not trying to be contrary - but sometimes questions get asked that demonstrate that the person asking needs more than just the answer they're asking for. So let me try to lay this out in a way that makes sense. 1. If you had machine work done with one type of fastner (bolt or stud), you cannot switch to another without an align-hone. 2. Studs are required to support a windage tray, and there are longer ARP studs to do this. 3. A windage tray is a good idea...but not required. So we're clear - I ain't an LT1/4 expert by any means. I've built MANY GEN I's but I've learned a lot the hard way on my LT1 383 build. What are you using as an overhaul reference? mtperformance 03-28-2008, 12:29 PM The LT1 has a windage from the factory (vette/Fbody) and Iam not 100% if you can use it with a 383 or + cube build, so if I was you I would just order a ARP kit for a LT1 and be done with it . IF YOU USE ARP USE THEY'RE TORQUE SPECS!!!!!!!!!! firstlast 03-28-2008, 01:54 PM so im not thinking that im going to use a windage tray i cant find arp bolts for a windage tray mtperformance 03-29-2008, 12:21 AM What kind of motor are you building ,355,383,396,? Zzcamaro00 03-29-2008, 02:20 AM speaking of torque specs. can yall tell me the torque on the head bolts? and also where i can find the sequence of tightiening them? firstlast 03-29-2008, 11:24 AM it is a high compression 355 and i contacted the machine shop that did the work for me and they told me that 99% of the time when switching to a stud you dont nned an align hone so i ordered the studs billla 03-30-2008, 09:32 AM So you only wipe a main bearing 1% of the time? :dontknow: Good luck, man - I got nothing :) mtperformance 03-30-2008, 04:07 PM it is a high compression 355 and i contacted the machine shop that did the work for me and they told me that 99% of the time when switching to a stud you dont nned an align hone so i ordered the studsI dont know what to tell you , it sounds like you want to stud the lower end but you asked for OEM specs so it seems like you haven't figured out what you want to do yet. | |
