SlowAss94LT1 03-26-2008, 06:01 PM I was browsing through some parts for my car and ran across some polyurethane motor mounts. Does anyone use these? Worth buying them? Are solid mounts available?
I use my car as a weekend driver only and also considering a head/cam swap. Just seeing if these would be worth buying. Also, how is the ease of installation of these? My mechanical skills are pretty good... Please let me know what you all think. Thanks!!
LearJet 03-26-2008, 07:02 PM I have poly mounts on mine. you will find all the rattles, clunks, buzzing noises, etc on your car after you switch to poly mounts. I did the engine and the trans at the same time. They are a lot firmer so they have to be a bit better than stock performance wise but you will pay for it in noise and vibration. I am considering trying a new stock rubber trans mount to calm some of the noise down but I don't think it will hold up to my power. Solid mounts are available, they are pretty much track only though.
shak180 03-26-2008, 07:21 PM are energy suspension poly mounts? and are they any good i'm thinking about getting them.
SlowAss94LT1 03-26-2008, 07:23 PM The main reason that I am seriously considering the solid mounts is because I had the poly ones in my srt4 and a tore both of them. The rattling doesnt concern me too much. It's not like the car is a high end benz or something.
Dennis93TA 03-26-2008, 07:32 PM I put poly mounts in my T/A and I love the way it feels. I did notice a wicked vibratino when i first put them in and it ended up being a poorly balanced stall. After I did all my motor work I put my poly trans back in along with adding the poly motor mounts and I haven't noticed any extra vibrations.
andrew ws6 03-26-2008, 08:15 PM I just put poly mounts on mine this weekend, I have not heard any vibrations or rattling. The best thing is that is that my headers dont hit the floorboard anymore, and about breaking the mounts I cant see it happening with these cars cause the mount is enclosed in the shell.

so were the ones on my srt4. they are enclosed in a steel case style motor mount. I guess with well over 300ft-lbs and nearly 290whp things break easily....
Trust me... we have a lot of HIGH hp LTx's on the forum here running the poly mounts and havn't heard of any breaking yet.

It's True!:LS1LT1flag:
LearJet 03-27-2008, 09:41 AM I was talking about breaking stock trans mounts not the poly ones, but I bet it could be done if you try hard enough. :) The stock ones rip in half quite regularly when you get up in power.
Stroker396 03-27-2008, 11:50 AM Installing the Poly engine ones requires drilling out the rivets on the stock ones and reusing the shell (bolt back together or weld)
The Tranny one is the important one cause like stated, the stock ones will tear in half very easily.
shak180 03-27-2008, 01:42 PM is an LTX a 396 stroker?
Dennis93TA 03-27-2008, 02:53 PM An LTx is any LT1/LT4 based engine. I don't know if the LT5 qualifies or not, thats a whole nother animal.
gillta95 03-27-2008, 08:35 PM has anyone tried using there: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MOR%2D62635&N=700+400105+4294908216+4294908198+4294924755+4294 840140+115&autoview=sku
I was about to, but bought a lightweight K-member.
JMG97SS 03-29-2008, 03:49 PM I was planning on the motor mounts but did the tranny one yesterday and even without using the preload plate the vibrations are still almost too much for my liking. Its did feel like it made the car shift better thought(t56).
