Looking for info on what it is gonna take to switch trannys. I am tired of having to rebuild mine every so many months. This is a daily driver so I must keep my over drive. I want to go with the Tahoe tranny (4L80E) The 60 usually last about 5 months before pooping out. I have bought the best parts and it still doesn't last. The sun gear drum lasted me about 1 month with the alto clutch pack. It always seems to burn out the 3rd gear clutch pack. Any info will help.

Why not just go to a TH350? They way it's a hydromatic trans and you still get to keep your overdrive.

I guess I don't understand what you're trying to say. A TH350 is a 3-speed automatic. Some were available with a locking torque converter, but most were not.
The 4L80E has the heart of a TH400 with overdrive and electronic control. It will probably be the hot rod overdrive of the future. Of course, now they're coming out with 5- and 6-speed automatics.
What I don't know is if the 4L60E controls will work with a 4L80E.

Both are 3 speed, the TH400 is to the TH350 as the 4L80E is to the 4L60E.

Yeah, I don't what I was smoking there.
The 400 is the heavy duty version. I'm an idiot.

Well you could go with a 5 planet setup for the 4L60E (maing it a 4L65E) but if you are burning up Alto clutch packs that quick, you are getting that tranny to hot.
I would opt for a bigger cooler with a temp controlled fan for one. Also, there are other 3-4 clutch packs out there besides Alto.
When you say that you have bought the best parts out there, what (and where) are you buying?
I have put together some transmissions with some expensive aftermarket stuff and I was impressed with what it all came with.

That's why it took me a couple of days to say anything...

Well we got parts through TCI, Summit, American Motor Sports in Orlando and local Auto parts like Napa. We have a pretty big cooler on her but no fan I guess that will be my next item before we hit Lakeland next week. If we can get her to the tuner in Tampa by then. Spun a rod bearing 3 weeks ago and I am installing a larger cam. I will have to do something with the tranny, I was told a 4L80E was like a turbo 400 with overdrive. And it should hold up to 1000 horsepower. If so that will be great considering I hope rev extreme can get atleast 500 to 600 on motor. but I am a women what do I know about trannys. LOL

This rebuild kit will handle up to 650-675 HP. Tons of high quality stuff in that kit. :)
