I'm looking at getting new wheels and tires for a '95 9C1 Caprice. I've been running 275 series Toyo Proxes S/T Sport Truck tires on my 93 Silverado for years and love them. They're mounted on 15" wheels. I was wondering if anyone knew if they'd be a good match for the Caprice even though they're designed for trucks. Any help or other suggestions for a 275+ tire on 15" wheels would be great.

You could run them if you want to. The sidewalls maybe be a bit stiff, but you shouldn't have any particularly ill effects.

What wheel size are you going with, 15"x7" or 15"x8"????

What specific tire size you looking to run?

275/60/15's would be my recommendation, but ONLY on an 8" or wider rim.

255/60/15's would be my recommendation on a smaller than 8" rim.

The B-body community tends to favor the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500.

Thanks! I had run those Firehawks on my truck before the Toyos, and they ran very similarly. I wouldn't recommend a 275 tire on anything narrower than a 15x8 either, that's what I run on my truck actually. The nice thing is that both my truck and the 9C1's have the same bolt spacing for the wheels. I really don't want to go narrower than 275s, and was even thinking about going with 295's, but didn't know if anyone's run anything that wide.

by the way, the tire I'm looking to run is either 275 / 60 / 15 that have a diameter of 28", or the 295 I was thinking of is a 295/50/15 with a 26.7" diameter.
On my truck I have a set of steel wheels that are 16x8 that I run 275/60/16s with a diameter 29" high that I might try out just for kicks.

295/50's?

Don't know of anyone running that size tire up front. I suppose they'll fit......

I put 29" tall, 235 truck tires on my caprice, and it was rather tall, and filled out the wheel well. I also have a set of 275/50/15 Drag radials on *GASP* 15x7 steel crager D windows. See Mr Avatar? :D. One caprice I bought had 295/50/15's on unknown rims. The guy kept them and knocked some money off the price, but they looked like they were gonna sneak off the rim! I think for the front it would really be pushing it. In the rear it seams to stick out a hair. I have seen 275/60/15's fit up front.

Here's the 295's

on a side note, it's a real shame what the 295 tires did to the car, because of the snow on the ground, and it hiting 2nd pretty hard....
