Hi guy's I am new to this site and am looking for some info.
Here is my info if needed. I have a 70 chevy SWB PU with a 92 vett LT1 40k miles and I am running the computer and harness from Painless. I have Sanderson 3/4 length headers that flow into a 3" single flow master 2 chamber exhaust and that is about it except for the air cleaner. The motor is mated to a custom built 700R4 built by Jim at ATO in Northern Ca. The rear end is a 12bolt with 3.41's and an eaton posi.
I just finished doing body and paint and an overall full rebuild of the truck only to find a good amount of water comming out of the tail pipe. So I am thinking it is a head gasket problem. The motor fire's right up and runns great but dumps alot of water out of the tail pipe. First thing I will be doing is varifying what the problem is and if all is good and it does just need new head gaskets I figured I might as well do a few mods while I am in their.
I would like to upgrade the Cam and I know that painless worked with Comp cams for what they call their "Hi RPM kit" that uses a Comp cam and a computer from Painless that are programed to work real well with each other. Does anyone have any info on this set up and is their a kit that comes with the can and all needed up grade parts like Valve springs, push rods, rockers, gaskets and seals? I am great with fabricating, body work, paint but cams have always had me a bit confused (I did read the cam post) so I thought I would ask for some help in this area from people who know more than I.
Is this cam a good swap worth doing or should I just fix the problem and leave it as is? I would like to bump the power a bit but if it is not worth the time or money I would like to find out first.

If you want to bump up the power, and you have the time and the money to do so, a cam/head swap is definitely worth the effort.

I guess my biggest concern is how big can I go with the Painless computer I am running. I know they will re-flash it for me to go up to their comp cam set up but I am not sure if I can go any more past that or not. I would also like to find a supplier to get everything from as I don't want to have to guess what parts I need.

Thanks, ss.slp.ls1 pm'd me his info and I have already sent him an E-mail with my wants and concerns. What year is your Chevelle? We have a 67 SS 396 4spd car with a tad over 30k miles on her. I would love to drop in a twin turbo LS motor but just can't bring my self to do such a thing to such a clean car. Here she is a few years back when we picked her up from the second owner.

That looks and sounds great. I had to go into the attic to find a set of speakers just to hear it. Well worth it. What did you have to do for programing with this set up and what exhaust are you running?

i sent the comp into pcmforless. you just tell them what you have done to the motor and they will tune it. but its best to get it dyno tuned to get the most out of the motor. as far as exhaust its open headers. im not going to run mufflers im just going to run in befor the rearend and dump it. we will see how long i can run it like that befor i get the cops following me all the time lol

Lets see how about FIRST TIME OUT:duh:
What did they charge to a comp tune and what should a dyno tune set one back?
Here are a few builds I have done or am still doing. The first one is the truck above and then some customer builds.

What are the good guys car shows:dontknow: J/K yes I live up in a small town called Winters just out side Vacaville and the shop that I work at for a day job is out of SanLeandro. My inlaws have a place in Hayward and one in Disco (were I keep our Chevelle) on the water. I pass by your area weekly. I just finished building the new Los Posidas JC addition a few months ago and now my job site is in down town Oakland at the Fox Theater. I am the Superintendent for our metal framming division and run all the job sites.
Then I have a buisness building these trucks and any thing else for that matter out of my shop at home. I mainly do rust repair, panel replacement, custom metal fabrication and chassie work.

Wel my truck was going to be but not now with this new problem. I just finished it, I pick up the interior Monday and just have the Cruse control to finish wiring up. But what the heck now it will just have more power when its done.
Right now it has PW,PS,Tilt,CC,A/C,CD,Heated Seats,EFI, AOD, rear bags and much more. I think I will check into a small turbo syatem as well in the 6-8lbs range.:D

dang the trucks better than a new one lol, yea i was looking into turbos but i just cant afford one, so im going to just add a 100shot of nitrous to it. i wish my car was as far along as your truck. i need to get the rear seat and headliner installed/re-done, still need to have a drive shaft made, get new windows. and finish some things up on the motor, o yea and a paint job lol. have you ever been on pro-touring.com if you have not check it out im sure you will find out a lot of info on turbos and what not.
