This may sound like a dumb question, but oh well... How much difference would a K&N filter or something similar make? I already have a lid but I still use paper filters. Never really thought much about cotton gauze filters unless they are used with an intake kit... Any ideas on what adding just a filter would do? I've been thinkin bout gettin one for a while, just never have.

Differnces are probably negligible, but its reusable so thats a plus. If you really want to have a noticable change, get a K&N FIPK intake, it should be good for about 14 hp.
A majority of people do the lid+filter combo at the same time. But I would have to say that it will be definatly noticable at upper RPM's.

Well the car already had the SLP Donaldson lid when I bought it, or I would have done a lid and filter at the same time... I just didnt know what kind of difference it would make by just replacing the filter. I know it will do a little bit to help, but is it worth the price of the filter? I guess if nothing else, like ss.slp.ls1 said, it's reusable, and would probably pay for itself by not having to buy any more filters.
Ahh yes, the SLP Blackwing lid made by Donaldson. I still replaced it w/ a Whisper lid & K&N filter on my 02 Hawk  But shortly returned it back to stock even down to the paper filter when I realized the potential value of the car. Its a good lid but its not the best. I'd say you will notice a filter. Dollar for dollar and minute for minute its one of the best mods.
