I was wondering what exactly the thermostat does in order to keep engine cooler. Does it just open itself wider in order to allow more coolant threw?

stock is 180 degree thermostat, and the 160 degree just opens up 20 degrees cooler.

Yep, just opens up at a lower temp. Keeps your temps down. Should get a tune or wire in a fan switch though. Stock operating fan on/off temps are a little on the high side.

So the t-stat just opens up wider or earlier?
