Magnaflow Cat-back: Off center :(

Just wondering if everyone's Magnaflow cat-back was off center after install? I've had mine for close to a year now, but it's really starting to bug me a lot to the point that I may buy a new cat-back to fix the problem...

Are they all like this or was it due to a retard installing it...?

I installed the one on my first T/A and the only problem it had was the driver side pipe didn't quite get a 90* bend it was more like 87* so it was coming out at an slight angle.

I just went out and looked at mine .... its off-center too.
I never noticed before I was more concerned that they had the tips evenly spaced.
I guess that's the way they mount or we both got installers from the 'short bus'.

I have a 93 z28 with a random tech exhaust on it and it is centered fine, I guess that is a magnaflow problem.

If I was you I'd be annoyed by that off center look to because it looks tacky.

I went back and looked at mine again. Muffler is off center alright but exhaust tips are evenly spaced from the sides and are in the center of the indentions (TA rear). Looking at yours it appears the drivers side tip is closer to the outside edge of the body and under the center of the tail light and the passenger side one is more to the left of center of tail light. I would go back and b****. It's one thing to have the muffler off center but the exhaust tips uniform. Having the whole thing shifted over is not right.

Its the install guys. Needed to have the over the axle pipe trimed a few inches before the muffler went on.

Is that something a good welder could cut and then re-weld?

Does not even need to be that good. Just cut move make sure its strait then reweld.

Heck if you lived closer to me we could do it in my garage. SawZaw, check, grinder, check, MIG Check.

Hell.. you might even be able to even that out yourself. Cut a section of pipe out and use a clamp to hold the piece's together.

probably a $15 job at a muffler shop though. They welded my entire cat-back on for me for $80... out of the box /w tails & hpipe (which needed re-welding to align it... only reason i was there in the first place)

I would say a clamp holding it together right at the muffler would leak..

My exhaust used to be the same way yours was, after someone bumped me in a saab 9-3. i had to get it fixed because it kept dragging on the ground when i went up the driveway, and eventually broke free and was bangen all around.

wow, my T/A has a magnaflow and is off center exactly how your's is. The driver's side is too far to the left and the passenger side is perfect. I think the bend right before the driver's side tip isn't bent far enough, but i don't have the tools to fix it, so i just have to live with it for now.

I've installed Dozens of Magnaflows and they're all the same, off center, and they've always pissed me off. You have to do a bit of finagling to get it centered. Shorten the over axle pipe a bit (not too much 'cos it'll throw the muffler off in an angle 'cos the bend is real close to the exit), cut come off the exit on the driver side of the muffler and move the exit pipe in as far as you can (cutting some off the pipe that slips over too in some cases), and then move the pass. side exit pipe over as far as it safely comes out (you may have to bend over the sheet metal seem on your spare tire well to get it out of the way) ... that's the way to do it right. It takes some time but it's well worth it!
