hey Guys,
What Do you think the Horsepower of My T/A is?.. a 305 Bored 0.30 over " 309" Ported and Polished Intake with a 58MM BBK throttlebody and a MSD IGN wires and Coil.. and a Cjet perfomance Chip " piggy back".. I wonder if it could be close to 275hp..oh and it has a set of gears in the rear, it sets the speedometer off by 30mph as I was told...I think they are 3.73's..dunno for sure

The 305 TPI motors were only 190-215hp stock. I doubt you're anywhere near 275.
I'd say 230 maybe. You're going to need a cam and headers to get anywhere near 275.

ok cool, sounds good...I dont know horsepower that well, all I know is its running soo good and its soo much faster then when I bought it in 2005...What kind of cam should I get? and what kind of headers?.. and when I get the cam Im going to need to have a new chip or reprogram mine right?...I was also told by someone that the 305 H.O manual transmission T/A had the 350 cam in it.. is that true?...

Its true on the later cars. Its still a very tiny cam by aftermarket standards. I'll see if I can scrounge up somebody to give you better advice as I'm a bit rusty on my 3rd gen tech.

Cam and headers will probably throw off the speed density computer tuning. Use a modern aftermarket grind, there's no sense in using lame factory offerings.
Hooker 2055HKR headers can't be beat, IMHO.

The 58mm throttle body isn't gaining much of anything, especially on anything under 370 cubes. It's gets asymmetrically closer to "zero gain" the lower the displacement goes. The intake porting probably didn't provide much gain on a 305, but it couldn't hurt. You've done all you can short of the valve train, heads, and exhaust, so those are the next logical steps.
The cookie-cutter program is probably only altering the timing slightly, likely didn't do much if anything with the VE and MAP tables, maybe tweaked the ESC attack/recovery a little, and probably lowered the fan settings a little. Once you install a decent cam, a good reprogram will get you a lot more than any off-the-shelf PROM.
Start shopping around for a decent profile (good lift, reasonable duration) roller cam and matching springs, and learn about reprogramming tools.

Ya Know...After Everything Ive been told so far, It seems that Ive really Never had a Powerful car before lol....For Doing what Ive done, and How the car was when I first got it, There is Such a Difference. For the Weight of the car and the engine size, the ride is sooo Impressive to me. If this car feels the way it does now and Behaves the way it does now, I wonder what a Cam, Headers, and a reprogram would feel like...An Aftermarket cam's Lift and Duration I wouldnt know where to start. I had a good friend of mine talk to me about Putting cams In My 305, And he suggested that I get a ZZ4 cam " I think thats what it was called" and he told be NOT to go over a certain lift and duration, Because anything TOO big wouldnt be beneficial to My application (309 TPI)... I was certain that this engine had a cam In it already, But you always get a Line of Bull$hit when you talk to someone about buying their car...the kid told me alot of things that I found to Be Incorrect, But whatever that was 2 1/2 years ago and 5k later

Well, feeling fast and actually being fast are not the same thing. Without some track or dyno numbers whatever it feels like is subjective.
I'm glad it feels faster than before you did the work, but honestly you have barely scratched the surface.
The fact that brand new Honda Accords have more HP than your car means you have lot of room to grow in front of you :)

Yeah, That drives me Nuts....A Honda having more power then My T/A..But, I could spend thousands of dollars making her extreamly fast..or I can Just enjoy what I have now, a Old Bird With New Life...I think Now Im just going to concentrate On getting her painted, and getting my snowflake rims Refinnished...Then maybe later Do some fun stuff with it, and when that time comes i know who to talk to :LS1LT1flag:

The 1990 Trans Am LB9 TPI engine was rated 210hp @ 4400 rpm and 285 lb-ft torque at 3200 rpm. It had the same cam as the 350 cid L98 TPI engine. 0.404/0.415" lift, 202/207* dur @ 0.050" lift, 114.5* LS.
The TPI engines will make tremendous low-mid rpm torque. Focus on mods that will work best in that rpm range.
If your car does indeed have 3.73 gears it's going to feel very quick.
Your engine has more torque than the new Honduh Accords.

The biggest thing to remember when considering a cam is new springs and might as well go with rockers as well so figure in another $400 IN PARTS ALONE

Screw the cam and all that BS. Pull the 305, drop in a 350 with a hot cam, vortec heads and scoggin intake, headers with 3 inch pipe and magnaflow muffler. Sell off all the crap you don't need and put that $200+ throttle body to work:D Polish the plenum and intake runners too.

Screw the cam and all that BS. Pull the 305,
Agreed.
You can make a 305 push 250-300rwhp, but youre going to use a large chunk of change in doing do.
A long time ago I had a 91 RS 5.0 5-Speed and I loved the car but besides a better carb and exhaust I didn't waste too much time into making it really fast...It was just a good looker/cruiser to get me some poo-tang,
I just started saving those bucks and putting it towards an LT1.
Although, If you can find an L98 350 TPI, there is some potential there. But don't put your money into a late 90's TBI 5.0. I hate to tell someone to not mod their car but in the long run it will work out to your benefit if you put your cash elsewhere.
Plus, you can find a decent 90k-130K mile LT1 car for $2800-$3500 if you really bide your time and look for it.

But if you build a 350 tpi there is potential there. Just not with stock parts. Intake is a big drag for one. Nothing to help it. Don't buy aftermarket runners, waste of 400 bucks in my opinion. Hope the car came with that big azz throttle body cause you coulda got the same response with the stock one and a 50 dollar air foil.
I paid 3200 for the t/a. Yeah its got 190+ on it with some quirks, but it has a rebuilt tranny and has never been modded and wasn't too beat up so I can safely assume it wasn't rode hard and put away wet. That's the most important thing. Don't buy someone elses headache:poke:. I did and it will be in the garage until next year:mad:. I don't think anyone in my area is gonna wanna piece of that thing when it's done though:devil:
Another option: GO TTA route and get yourself a LC2 with tranny and get a conversion bracket and a crossmember-THAT would be money well spent in the car:rockon:
