14.6xx @ 94.5mph is the best time I got from my 270,000 mile '96 BBB on factory 255 BFG's. (K&N FIPK, 1LE, 2200 stall)

14.50x @ 96 mph is the best time I got from my 120,000 mile '96 9C1 on 225/70's (K&N FIPK, 1LE)

Both at Cecil County Raceway (MD)

Check my sig!

how come ur torque is so low? i thought our cars came with like 330 stock because of the iron heads?
first i thought u might have the tc stall in and then dynoed it then it would be giving u a false reading, but thats under coming soon.
so whats up with that?

Remember, the 4L60E has about 20% drivetrain loss. Stock flywheel #'s are 260HP/330TQ. To the wheels are roughly 210HP/265TQ. So based on my numbers to the wheels, I should be making 313HP/362TQ at the flywheel. Does that answer your question?

wow!
thats pretty amazing... is that just us with the 4l60e or every car?
would a high stall converter help get more power 2 the wheels any?

I think it is the same for all 4L60E's but I could be wrong. Other transmission's have there own unique drivetrain loss.

A higher stall would only be effective when matched with the proper cam. The powermax 2033(crane 227) cam produces consistent power from 2000-6000 rpm. Minimum use of this cam is 1500 rpm, and the stock converter is rated @~1400. That is why I chose the 2400 stall SLP. Sure I could get a higher stall converter, but I'm not racing my car everyday. My car is a daily driver, so I took that into account when shopping for upgrades.

Now, when everything is said and done, my car 'should' get me into the 12's/low 13's in the 1/4 mile. Without sacrificing the ability to drive comfortably everyday. (crosses fingers)

First off, what is your overall goal? A) Street/Strip, B) stop light to stop light no one can take me, or C) power there when I need it

Secondly, what is you're budget? Is it a couple grand and that's all, or whatever you want to spend. Money grows on trees, right?

Third, what about supporting mods? I see you have a 2.5 inch exhaust. What about headers, replacing the stock cylinder heads, cam, springs/roller rockers?

1st- i guess a little of it all...i would prob take the car once or twice a year 2 the track just 2 c whats the 1/4...but mostly want a sleeper so mostly B

2nd- prob not a lot but at least 1700-1900 this weekend...and once the camaro is sold another at least 1000

3rd- i have full bolt ons and some suspen. mods but dont no where 2 go from ther...i was considering a cam and heads but i dont no squat bout those things, just no it seems 2 give a ton a power

i need 2 concentrate on my tranny this weekend and then once the cars rolling past 1st gear i'll be prepared for major(internal) work

LT1 powered B-bodies can run deep in the 12s with just bolt-ons. Ask me how I know

This is a list of what you'll need to get into the 12's naturally aspirated:

1) The usual bolt-ons (that you already have.)
2) Gears (3.73's are the best to maintain driveability IMO)
3) Torque Converter (covered that earlier, smaller size are typically more $ like Edge/Vigilante)
4) Re-tune the PCM (PCMforless or PCMperformance)
5) Cylinder Heads(Ported Aluminum LT1 heads 374 casting, or Port the stock iron heads)
6) 1.6 Roller Rockers and new Valve springs
7) Camshaft that matches up with all the rest

Anyone else have more to add or adjust?

You can get into the 12's on the stock heads. I know of a couple cars that have done it cam only, and they were nothing special. One was even with the small ZZ3 cam, ther other has a custom Advanced Induction, going mid 12's. and these are not east coast cars that get that freaky awsome air(D/A) Having a quality 9.5" converter makes a big difference. With all the bolt ons, that converter canbe worth .5 atleast, putting you in the mid to low 13's on the stock heads and cam.

Unfortunatly, I've been rather slow, in getting my cars put together. It would not surprice me if my 96 caprice breaks into the 12's this spring.

It went 14.3(corrected it was 14.4): muffler delete & H pipe, PCMforless, K&N FIRK, TB-Bypass, stock 3.08's, stock posi, stock trans, stock converter, 225/70/15 Goodyears.

Guy did it on less than i thought he did!

Now it has much more. Headers, No cats, hooker catback, 4.10's & eaton, GMPP 845 cam, crane valve springs, comp 1.6 rockers, 3000 Edge(If Edge ever gets it back to me....) converter & rebuilt 4L60E, plus some 275/50/15 BFG drag radials :D

Good luck Cory! That should get you very close :)

Good luck Cory! That should get you very close :)

I hope so. I still need to call EDGE and set my stall. I'm thinking 3200-3300. seams like no matter the cam, on the stock heads, the torque peaks right around 3500.

So I took my 94 9C1 out to the drag strip on friday. It did quite a bit better than I thought it would. It has 172,000 miles on it, but the previous owner told me that it has closer to 90k on the Mr Good wrench engine, and trans.

Mods were:
Home plate delete
TB-bypass
Cut-up air box, with a K$N panel
Lowered shift by a few 100 RPMS(previous owner)
Increased trans Line PSI
275/50/15 BFG drag radials
Blown up Posi
Cut off the drivers side tail pipe... right by the back of the tire... As I was getting ready to leave, I backed out of my friends yard, and bent the SH*T outta the resinator pipe, when it caught the ground. graemlins/http://www.impalassforum.com/vBulletin/images/smilies/cwm3.gif.gif

Other than that, it was all stock, with first base, stock mufflers, and tail pipes. Trunk was emptied out, but thats really it!!

On the 235/75/15 truck tires, it went

2.2629 - 60'
9.7340 - 1/8 mile
72.93 - 1/8 mile MPH
15.0768 - 1/4 mile
91.66 - 1/4 mile MPH

Then after adding the slicks, and the sun going down, I got many more 15.1's, 15.0's, and 14.9's, with a best of:

2.1672 - 60'
9.5319 - 1/8 mile
74.02 - 1/8 mile MPH
14.8631 - 1/4 mile
91.68 - 1/4 mile MPH

It was a 1 hour drive to the track, and the only cooldown was waiting in the staging lanes, which never took more than 30 mins.

The D/A was about 1100
Race weight was 4290, with 3/4 tank of gas, and I weigh 160.

Pretty good for an almost stock 9C1? Corrected, it's only .1 slower than my Buick... and THe roadmaster ran 15.0, in a bad D/A, Corrected it was a 14.55

the Buick has:

TB bypass
PVC intake, cut up box, K$N
beehive valve springs
Clear Image Tri-y's
Muffler delete, on the stock exhuast
Air lifts
275/50/15 Drag Radials
Removed rear, and passenger seat.
Crappy ass 2.56's

Edit The Buick Weighed 4220

So what do you guys think?
