Hey, im new here. My names chris. IM in the us army. Im in the 18xray program ( 18bravo mos ) and will have close to 60 grand to blow (not counting 2 years of training pay and combat pay ) and its all goin into a fbody. I came here to get suggestions. Please tell em what you would do with the money. Goal: Baddest car on the street. SO basically a 10 sec street car with an interior that I can still bring the ladies home in.

IMHO put 1/2 in a mutual fund and forget about it. Would be a killer down payment on a home some day (garage!)
There's not an F-body made IMO that's worth blowing $60,000 on.
Having said that, you have the budget to go big time with every part of the car. I'd see about sourcing an LS7 crate motor.

Well yeah but he's got 60k to spare It's 28k for the whole thing including trans. but I guess the interior and the looks of the car will require more than 40K.

you should really cut two holes in the hood and have the turbo's pop out like that 1500hp GN (If any of you guys have seen that vid)

Just come to the shop with a suitcase full of 100's and we'll take care of the rest....
just kidding - the twin turbo 408 would be a fantastic combo and be streetable. Figure about $20-25k to get it built and installed and tuned right. drivetrain and suspension need to be built up to handle it.

Well being SF you'll run into alot of folks with badass cars. Been there, done that.
Anywho, since you military, you are eligable for USAA insurance. They also do many other things ,like checking savings accts, etc. They will help you buy a car and get it at at price no one can touch.
Example, right now, i just saw a car ordered / bought. 06 ZO6, yellow, loaded to the hilt, stickered at 68,500. He got it for 54,300. AND, being stationed in a state that does not apply taxes to military.
With 60k you even have dinero left over for some mods on one of the baddest cars ever produced.
AND IT WILL BRING THE LADIES HOME,,,as you suggested.

No way.
I bought (stole) the car from my dealership for $14,000. This was in December of 02. It was a 2000 with 8600 miles. Book on the car was $18,500.

Right on, check www.usaa.com
Best insurance rates ever for military folks.
I bet he's in training now, I hope he doesn't blow all that money. I'd take 30K and go looking for a slightly used C5 ZO6. And put the rest away like Chris R said.

lots of people imagine.... few do.... thats the point:thumbsup:
running 8's requires $$$ and truth is no, i dont think you could do it with 43.5K and the car you have....
no pissing contest here, lets hear your plan and prices.... see if you have all the bases covered to run the 8's....

$2000 Moser 10 bolt
$700 Cam/spring pushrods
$500 Clutch/or Converter
$1300 Patriot 5.3 Heads
$325 Dyno Tune
$725 Duals/headers
$200 ASP pulley
$300 ls6 intake *unless 2001 +* ;)
$90 Lid
$70 - Ported throttle body (could be wrong on the price - been to long since i've talked to Bo White)
$350 Slicks on stock 16" rims.
Thats under $7,000 So you have 3000 extra to throw down on extras.
:)
And you can take out some weight of the car and NOT have it be a tin can also.

I'm sure you ment 12 bolt.
and that runs about 2300...
that combo aint runnin consistant tens... maybe low 11's
you aint getting a dialed in dyno tune for 325... most places charge 300+ for a base tune and then charge you for dyno time(100 bucks an hour is the norm)
what kind of headers and duels you gettin for 725??? jet hots and hookers(middle of the road headers) run 550ish and a GOOD true duel set up is running you 350+ so that more like 900 bucks...
your car is gonna detonate itself all to hell everytime you go WOT since you did nothing to the fueling system
and you did absolutley nothing to the suspention and chasis....
so your first run you have a bent tq arm, a twisted and broke driveshaft, and twisted chassis, or you dont grab any traction at all and spin yourself to a 12 second timeslip.
your running stock tires up front?
your tranny you left stock, thats gonna break every other run...
your gonna run the stock aluminum DS? kiss that bu buy...
what kind of TQ converter you getting for 500???
and i take it you plan to install all this stuff yourself since you did not include any money for installs...
for get 3000 on extras.... you haven't included the ESENTIALS ;)
by the by... you need a cage to run da tens...:D
not bustin your balls here man, I am just showing exactly what i am talking about, very few people understand what all goes into building a truely fast and reliable f-body...
for a full break down, check out my sticky, so you wanna be fast?

Mikey works for a shop so his prices are correct. They are what he'd pay, not what a normal person would pay. And if anyone could build a budget 10 second car, I'd put my money on him.

We do dyno tuning for $375, and we had it on special because of world of wheels so 325 for a FULL dyno tune. Speed Inc charges a shit load i know, Baddog got his car tuned a couple days ago, he paid $250 i believe.
Pacesetter non coated headers are $275, and 450 for duals. You can get a moser 12 bolt for $2000 here locally. Moparnos did it a few months back, and yes it was new. You're right about the fuel system, and the trans probably will break if you dont have a 6 speed.
I went 11.50 with headers, lid, 3.73s, a 50 shot, and a 3600 stall on slicks. That's well under $2000 and it was very very conistant and didnt break ever. I know there was a 50 hsot on there, but with heads and cam it will more then take up the last part there. You can definately go 10's on a heads and cam car decently easy. MDblackz28's car i did went 11.23 with a 231/237 and it was still 3300 lbs.
Brians car should definately go 10's without anything sort of induction (i hope ;)
You dont need anything for supsension either, brian will definately agree with me in the fact that we both PERSONALLY know someone with a little white SS without any and hooks very hard on the street and is going 10's with a full stock supsension - no lca's, panhard bar, torque arm, shit i think it even has stock shocks.
A fuddle Stall is right at 500 i think, i had one in my car, and i've put them in several others. with 28" slicks and 350 hp i 60 ft with a 1.52 and go 12.0 over and over again.
Add $700 for a fuel pump, injectors and a set of subframes.
and $650 for that 6 point cage cause we all dont have a US41 to run at like me and brian do ;)
I think i usually go low 11's without a helmet even... :D
Im sure i forgot something else, but it was all off of the top of my head and took me a few minutes to do. Yes, i did leave out labor. Everything there is very capable of being done at home with very basic hand tools. I do realize some people shouldnt be allowed to change oil, but most of us, started off not knowing anything and pursued different mods from there.
- I'm 18, just starting in all of this but im doing better then a lot of people. I've done a decent amount of cars, and have a lot of it down where i dont even have to think about it and i can do it like i've done it 200 times.
Let me know if i forgot anything else, I probably did, and im not trying to sound angry or pissed in anyway - this is all just speculation and fun and games anyways. :)

Oh yeah, you should have about enough to get a fully built 4l60e from Rodney at RPM transmissions if you need it. I think thats tagging the $10,000 mark on the head. If someone wanted all that done, I would love to do afull car again. Matts car (4thgencamaro,mdblackz28, i think there was another screen name he used this month) was basically that. It got a full drivetrain, and i probably did it to cheap ;)

Well, I agree with Mikey on everything except that "Straighline Performance" thinger at the end of his post. ;)
And yes Ivan's car can dead hook on the street on stock suspension. I've seen first hand what it can do when he raped me out of the hole. But on the other hand, Fernando ran in the 11's with just suspension work, headers and a catback really so it's a toss up.
