Aside My trans am, I have had only one problem with my grand prix, the Computer went last week. It was throwing a service engine soon Light for a bad EGR. They replaced the EGR 2 times, and the light didnt go away.. ALittle more diagnostic work and they found it to be a faulty computer...This job cost me $330 for a new computer and labor. Imnot mad about it because I have had the car for so long and Ive always kept up on her. She just Hit 78,000 miles last night and I wanted to do some Preventitive maintnance to the transmision.. I noticed the fluid is getting alittle dirty and shes more powerful off the line Cold then warmed up. I read online that If I remove the transmssion cooling lines and let one drain into a pan and let the other suck up new fluid I can change all the fluid even in the torque converter.. I was also told that its not nessesery to change the filter.. I want to take care of the transmission and I dont want it to blow up. I know absolutly NOTHING about automatic transmissions, other then they are hydrolicly driven and they have clutch packs valve bodies and such...

1) should I buy a AUX cooler with a fan, and run the lines to that,
2) should I go about replacing the fluid in the way I stated above? Do I need to replace the filter

3 if the fluid is turning brown, is it from heat, or is this a sign of possible transmission failure?

any help on this would be greatly apreciated, This is my daily driver, and it is a bone stock Grand prix

How does it shift?
Does the car feel like the shifts are getting stiffer/softer?

What do you mean by "turning brown"?
What is your level at in the overflow bottle when the car is running and warm?
I would have the fluids changed, and put on a new tranny filter as well.

What I mean is the Fluid Is loosing its redness... i read that Hydrolyic fluid Is brown But Dyed red to not confuse the difference between oil and trans fluid ( dont know the accuracy of that)... anyhow.. Its just loosing its red color No leaks anything... The transmission is shifting allittle firmer From the time I bought it new till now...It gets me worried because Im about to drive it down to texas soon, and the last thing I need is the transmission going on me...

Drop the pan and swap the filter. You can do that flush procedure you posted but be careful as you could run it low real easy. Everyone say coolers aren't needed on these but I've burned up without being too hard on it so I'd recomend one. In fact I've got a pretty good sized summit one to install once I get my trans issues squared away.

Hey everyone,

Well, I Drove back from texas and I had the transmission Completly Cleaned out.. I watched the stuff that was comming out of there, all dark almost black.... Trasmission was fine for a few days... what Ive Really been noticing is the transmission is just shifting Ruff.. Im beginning to think its a bad engine or transmission Mount. it doesnt slip... and Ive put about 2,500 miles since the fluid chaange, and the fluid still looks brand new... I watched him put a GM approved High temp synthetic auto transmission fluid in.... But it just shifts ruff...Anyone think I had just saved the transmission in texas from total failure?...

Sounds like ya caught a brake with that. I've heard many a good comment on the new Dexron 6 fluid which is the synthetic you speak of
