Hey Guys,

I bought My 1990 Ta In sept 2005 and from then to about 4 months ago Ive learned alot about the car. Learned how retarded my mechanic was by not knowing that 1990 was speed density and that the whole thing about the mass air wire being cut and tucked away was Just a Line of Bull$hit..Then From the service engine soon Code 43 and being told that someone removed the EST " the module mounted with the 3 relays by the brake booster" and clipped the pigtail, all to do some research and ask reputable 3rd gen guys to find that my 1990's computer controled that part, and either that part in the computer went bad or the aftermarket chip was no good..Chip was Copyrighted 1993..haha, so I pulled the piggy back chip out, and Just installed the stock chip back in and their was NO SERVICE engine soon light, car started right up, no problems... I adjusted the timing, and the car runs alot better then it did... I have spent a lot of time on this car, and Ive worked extremly hard to undo all the Unnessesary, Stupid, Cheap Half a$$ed " Modifications that the previous Owners did before me..I even went as far as to get the Pigtail for the cars stereo Harness because that was clipped....

I have some questions Maybe You guys can help me out with and Ill explain the problem as best as I can..

She starts right up, She runs, theirs no problem there. The problem I noticed is when, I start her cold It dont Stink of exhaust as bad as it does when it gets Warm...and When I tell you guys stink, I mean STINK of exhaust.. I went back to work and I smelled of that stuff all day long.. I let my buddy take it up the block and when he got half way away from me, I guess he stepped on the gas a bit But It blew out Greyish black smoke for a like 3 seconds, It disappeared Immediatly the smoke, it wasnt like Oil smoke when your rings go and smokes out your whole neighborhood, and it never gives off a sweet smell or bright white smoke ever.. this motor was rebuilt, everything new.. when I let it sit and Idle if I kneel Down I can see the smoke comming out of the exhaust, and with the smell I wanna say its running rich, But its throwing No codes at all.... It also shakes and the car goes from side to side. and I noticed Hesitation in the low rpm range but its rough under acceleration to like 35oo rpm then is smooth?..also their is condensation.. It made a wet spot in my drive way, I just cant think of what it could be besides something sensor related, Or maybe I hooked up the vaccume lines wrong? I hear no hissing comming from the engine except for the throttle body, and I have the aftermarket BBK 58 MM throttlebody with a new Idle air...tps is original, 7 injectors are not new 1 was replaced.. O2 sensor is new, But I noticed where the wire goes in their is a crack in the porcelin?..EGR is Brand new? what could this be??

are there any cats on the car, if not that could be your smell.

you said the motor was rebuilt, how long ago, how long has it sat, being that its been rebuilt, are there any internal modifications that your aware of, im thinking along the lines of a cam

if i remember right, black smoke is running rich/carbon deposit build-up. if im right on that, id suggest getting a can of Seafoam and putting it into the gas tank.

No everything is new, I did the motor myself and I it didnt have any carbon on the pistons even when I took it apart...I think it is a cam other then the 350 cam in it....I am going to try a bottle of seafoam and see what happens, Maybe some injectors are dirty... Is their any sensor that can go and throw a code?

The O2 sensor can get weak and not set a code. It doesn't send as much voltage back to the ECM as it should, the ECM reads that as a lean condition, and richens the mixture. The O2 sensor has to basically fail completely before it sets a code.

I see.. But would that cause a car to stink of Exhaust sooo bad your clothes smell like it and you can smell it 50 feet away?....

Also, the touch of black smoke and the dark grey smoke that comes out sometimes when I rev it under load and not under load...My mechanic said its dumping fuel... ?? The Fuel pressure regulator diaphragm is new, the fuel pump is new 1 out of 8 injectors are new..I Just DO NOT GET IT... The ONLY thing that I can think of is that ALLL Of the Fuel Injectors are Bad or work when they want to......Because she gives alittle Hesitation at low RPMS.. and I put a bottle of seafoam in the gas tank and it didnt do the trick...

make sure all of your spark plug wires are in the correct position on the distributor. A lot of those symptoms can can be caused by two wires in the wrong spot. (ask me how I know:() It dumped fuel, reved poorly lot of vibration, poor MPG, etc...

might not be but check anyway.

if this is not it check for leaking injectors (easy to do) and what is your base timing set at (6*BTDC with bypass disconnected) do you have a AFPR, if so what is the pressure set at?
try pulling the plugs, if you have not (new motors can fowl plugs too)

if AFPR Refers to a " Aftermarket Fuel Pressure Regulator" I did replace it, But I did a stock Replacement..

Well, usually it means "adjustable" fuel pressure regulator.
