amp keeps gettin hot

ok i recently got two 10's and for some reason my amp keeps gettin hot after playing for like 30 mins. I have been told i might have to ground it somewhere else and then other people told me i should buy a more powerful amp.. do any of you know what it could be??

Impedance matching or speaker impedance is what you are looking for....Check the ohms with it cranked up and then turned down....If the number changes then something is wrong....Many variables like wire size, fried amp, something wired wrong, bad ground/not enough ground, etc....

Wire gauge also plays a part in this....I would try getting a larger size, smaller number gauge wire instead of replacing the amp....Which is more costly....

well actually i am using four gauge wire and everyone who has looked at it says they believe the amp isn't powerful enough

4g is supposed to be good for 800watts. its possible your speakers are wired to a lower impedance than the amp is designed to put out. need more info though about the system to make a final judgemnet

Chances are you have the amps wired wrong. Are they dual voice coil or single voice coil? Give me the brand and model number of the subs and amp and I can help you more.


My guess is you have the subs wired to an impedance lower than the amp is stable.

my answer take it out, amps and subs are for truck or rice.
like the kid in class with me that is going to make his honda handle better by adding weight and using it for weight distrabution

i dont think people understand that an amp cant have to little of power, i was running a 200 watt amp before i got my 800(on the same subs) check for airflow over the amp too that might help a little.
