The car just hasn't run well out at the track. I've got 76/90 jets in it, it's finally pulling properly, but ET has been all over the place. It tends to get slower as the air gets better, in fact - or it just up and runs great when I don't expect it to. Not acceptable in bracket racing.

The mechanical timing has been all over the place. Rather than try to figure out why the GM HEI is doing that, I just got an MSD Pro Billet vacuum/mechanical distributor & a Blaster coil to go with the Digital 6 box. I'm also going back to E85, and if time permits (probably won't), take off the Holley Strip Dominator single plane intake and go back to the RPM Air Gap dual plane.

Never ends, huh?

Well, I got the RPM back on, and figured out why the HEI mechanical advance was so squirrelly - the advance mechanism doesn't have a positive stop, so the weights are providing the limiting function - and they aren't very good at that. The new MSD distributor is much, much better in that regard, and tailoring the advance curve will be easier, as well.

I'll hang on to the HEI and see if I can fix it for use in the Camaro.

I love my RPM airgap on my Camino. I also have a demon 750 that works really nice. My distributor is a protronix hei and works wonderfull, and was priced right.

Well, in the 5 months since I posted that...

The Digital 6 box got wet and shorted out. I put the old HEI back in with the Crane box, ran it that way for one race before heading for Topeka for the NHRA Division 5 Summit ET finals. After my first time trial Friday (you only get four for the weekend), it wouldn't start back in the pits - it seemed to have been running fine when I pulled in. I ended up going to the O'Reilly's store down the street and getting an Accel HEI distributor and Supercoil for it, ran it that way the rest of that weekend and the next race back home.

Also got the Quick Fuel Technologies E85 metering blocks - picked up 2 tenths with that one change.

Ran a 13.14 @ 103 mph at 5800' altitude last weekend. DA was around 9000' at the time.

Over the winter, I hope to get the Digital 6 back to MSD and back in working order, and getting the rest of the MSD parts back on.

Nice run!! especially in a 57' those things are good size.
I am going to start running again next year pretty heavy. It's been a long time since I ran at bandimere. I was always in the top 10 in sportsman back in the late 80's early 90's in my 64 nova, but got out of racing. I got the "itch" again this year when I ran my Camaro. Hope to see you down there. Take care Jason

The 12.23 @ 109 it ran at Topeka was quite a kick.

I hope to be at Bandimere this Saturday and Sunday. Saturday is the bigger question mark. Last Saturday there were about 400 cars out, Sunday was light because of the forecast of rain. One bud who did go out Sunday said they made it pretty far because of the light turnout before it started to rain. This Sunday it's bound to be a huge turnout because of the big payout for the last race of the season.

Check the Drag Racing forum for some of my recent "exploits".
