stock 94 formula 179k cat delete a4 2.73. I seen another post where somebody said theirs wouldn't break loose from a dead stop. mine will break loose from dead stop for about 3-5 car lengths depending on road quality. this car sees about 500 highway miles + let's say another 100 in the city every week. car gets parked in a construction site with exposure to dirty air and concrete dust/ silica. I bought the car for 1300 . anybody else had a good experience with 2.73s. also mustang are a joke on the highway haha

Are they kidding? My 98 TA (4L60-E) with a 2.73 can break loose at up to about 35mph the only time I checked. Won't do that by accident anymore;-). The gas mileage is great, 19mpg suburban and 27mpg highway (documented). Way better than my old 86TA getting 16mpg suburbs with only 165bhp.

I personally find 2.73s awesome and I know what you mean. take of from a stop like normal and right before it shifts , slam the gas mine screams and breaks loose. it's good forhe people that like to get a jump on you then try to race.

also has anybody done 295/50 tires on a 2.73 rear

higher gear ratios are better for smokeshows; as long as you have enough final drive torque to break the tires loose in the first place

2.73s aren't bad at all with a 4l60e

I personally think 2.73s suck ass comparably to 3.73s. Yeah.. you can break your tires loose with some bald tires. Horrible gears from a dig, 2nd-3rd lag is embarrasing, cannot roll race at all. Absoulutly no sotp fealing what-so-ever. GMs pitch to make a gas friendly ls1, that's all 2.73s are good for. If your stalled with 2.73s it's alittle different..but if you get a high stall, it can be very loose, which for some is ok.

My '94 Z28 is A4 w 2.73's. what a dog from a rolling start. It's nice if I can kick it down to 1st but if it doesn't and stays in 2nd I get beat by a lot of cars that have no business passing me.

Beating mustangs doesn't hardly have anything to do with what gear your running. This comes down to what all you have/he has..Too many different varibles to say you won because of gears.

A 2.73 to 3.73 swap will only net a couple tenths gain in a 1/4 mile race. BUT...it "feels" like you picked up a whole second because of the low ratio torque gain. Too many threads out their that just bash a 2.73 geared ls1/lt1. And I don't blame them when it comes to truly getting everything you can outta your car. I didn't realize how sluggish my 2.73s were until I swapped them. It was a nice difference especially for city driving=alot more fun. Not nearly the performance my stall gave though.

I did the swap from 2.73's to 3.42's in my '71 Camaro and it felt like I picked up 100 hp so I can only imagine how 3.73's would feel. I definitely want to change mine out in my '94 but once I move from NJ to FL. (I'm driving it to FL)
